You have been Pinteresting what seems like forever now looking for ways to stand out from other seniors uniquely. Do you find yourself running out of ideas and continuously searching for something that makes you different? Honestly, it is not as easy as you would think it is! Your senior session should be a reflection of who you are. I would love to share some information to help give you ideas of what you can do!

Do you have a favorite sport, article of clothing or accessory that you would like to highlight? Make sure your photographer knows about this early in the process so they can find creative ways to incorporate this aspect of your personality and life into your portrait session.

Something You Love Doing

Try incorporating a skill, sport, hobby, or passion into your session. No matter where the future takes you, an image that shows what you love doing pauses this time in history. My Story Minnesota specializes in action portraits, specifically dance and action sports. I (Matt) have photographed most sports and have had the pleasure of contributing to over 200 stories at the Star Tribune. Whatever your look, My Story Minnesota can help you capture it in the best light, creating an editorial portrait that will catch the eye of everyone who admires it on your wall.

Location

Everyone has their own preferences. My Story Minnesota has access to a studio in Minneapolis as well as the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Do you want to shoot by a creek, tall grass field, urban setting, or indoors? Whether you want to shoot your entire session in the studio, in the elegant gardens of the Arboretum or on the streets of Minneapolis or St. Paul, we will work with you to customize your session.

Want to save some money? Bring your best friend and you can each get We all have our preferences. The site of where we shoot can be essential and should go along with your personal style and personality.

Bring Props

Again, I want to showcase you in your natural element and your personality! Wear a uniform, bring a furry friend, or a vehicle you have put some major work into. Think outside the box because the options are endless!

Be Fashionable

Diversify your shots. We have about 150 minutes together and we do not limit you on number of styles, the more the better. We do ask that you come prepared with hair and makup done. We can bring along a makeup and hair specialist (adds about 45 min. to the session) if you prefer to have us handle it. We will get your standard shots to warm up and then we will let your personality shine as we get into the shoot. This is your day to be you and let everyone know it.

Move Your Body

Ever feel like your cheeks are twitching as you hold that smile for the school photographer? That is not the kind of photos we like. We want you to move (and then tilt your chin down and to the left just a bit). No seriously. Of course, we will do structured poses as well, but seeing you do your thing will make great shots for you to share with family and friends. Finally, most of our clients come to us for action. Whether it is dance (our specialty) or sports, Lets get geared up for the activity you live for and capture the magic, with a couple posed shots along the way.

Endearing Photos

This one can be tough. I have worked with several seniors who have older relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles) that they have asked to come along for their shoot. Getting a shot with them while you are in your senior repertoire creates a great photo along with memories that last forever.

Now that you have a few nifty ideas, I can’t wait to see what you decide on doing. Your senior session will be a lot of fun, and one day, you will reminisce on these special times of young adulthood. Remember, be yourself! Everyone else is already taken.
