Are you excited yet? We are and we can’t wait to see YOU at your senior portrait session. Do you have any butterflies yet? Totally expected, but we want you to know that you don’t need to worry. If you have a signature look you want to capture, great. More likely you are not sure what to expect, other than the great (and likely a not so great) stories from your friends who are a year older than you. But what will your senior portrait shoot look like?

I am glad you asked. Here are a couple things to think about as you prepare for your My Story Minnesota senior portrait experience. This is not an exhaustive list (lists are not my idea of fun) but as one of Matt’s favorite sayings goes, “Luck favors the prepared,”

Here are some questions and ideas for you as you prepare for your My Story Minnesota Senior Experience. Here are some tips from our professional portrait photographers who make it their passion to capture yours.

What to wear? The length of shoot that you reserve will be the only limit on the number of outfits we can fit in. Quick tip: If you have an outfit you need to capture, find a great picture you want to re-create, and it will save time in front of the camera which means more outfits.

Location, Location, Location: While our default Senior Experience is the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum or our studio in Minneapolis (or both), we want to capture you in your element. Do you have a place in mind? Let us know and we can work out the details to make your experience all you dreamed it would be.

Hair and makeup: We love capturing you. The difference between a night with friends and your senior portrait experience is that you will be looking back at these images for years to come, ask your parents to see their senior portraits or yearbook. Making sure you put time in thinking about how your hair will be worn will make a big difference.

  • Get your hair cut a couple weeks prior to your experience. Ask your stylist if they will show you how to style your hair.
  • Hire a stylist to style your hair the day of your shoot.
  • Ask your stylist the best way to keep “frizzies” or fly-away hair down. Everyone’s hair is different so the advice of a professional hair expert can really enhance your final images.

Accessories: Yes! These are the essence of your style! Do you have sports equipment, a special collection or something else that everyone knows you by? We LOVE featuring favorite fashions of our seniors and dancers. Please send photos of your accessories and, if you have a photo you would like to create, let us know.

Remember that this is your senior portrait experience. It is our goal to make this an experience you will never forget. Fill out the form below and we can’t wait to hear from you and help you create a Senior Portrait experience you will be proud to show your family for years to come.
